First international conference on combating drugs and psychotropic substances kicks off in Tripoli.

Tripoli The first international conference on the effect of drugs and psychotropic substances on families and communities was launched this morning under the theme “Confronting drugs is a solidarity responsibility”. The conference is being Organized by the Ministry of Interior in cooperation with the General Directorate for Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, Sabratha University and the Social Solidarity Fund.

The conference was attended by Deputy Head of the Government of National Unity Ramadan Abu Jnah, Interior Minister Khaled Mazen, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and a number of researchers and doctors specializing in this field.

Researchers and doctors from all over Libya presented 87 papers “Zoom” video conferencing, as well as participations from the Ministry of Interior, the General Department for Combating Drugs control and psychotropic substances, Sabratha University, the Social Solidarity Fund, al-Razi Hospital for Psychiatric and Neurological Diseases, the Libyan Family Monitor and the Libyan Customs Department.

The conference included several topics including role of Government ministries and civil society organisations in the prevention of drugs and psychotropic substances and the legislative and legal reality of the criminalization of drugs in Libya and Arab and foreign countries.

Interior Minister Khaled Mazen explained in a speech at the conference that the holding of this conference was part of the ministry’s plan to combat this negative phenomenon that threatens security and society.”
