Al Koni’s talks with the European External Action Officer revolve around the issue of illegal migration.

Brussels, presidential Council Vice President Musa Al Koni discussed here on Tuesday illegal migration with Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service for Economic and Global Affairs Helena Koenig.

The talks, attended by Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Mohamed Issa, and the high-level delegation accompanying AlKoni focused on the importance of dealing with the issue of illegal migration, shifting the fight against illegal migration from the Sea to the south.

The talks discussed support for Libya’s border control efforts and countering the flow of migration from the country’s southern borders, which would spare migrants crossing of the Libyan territory for Europe, the free difficulties they face on the way, at sea, and in detention centres. European official Helena Koenig stressed that the migration file occupies a special place in European politics and in the EU’s overall strategy.

Helena Koenig underscored the importance of cooperation in this file, stressing that illegal migration is not only about Libya, but is a common problem that the EU is keen to address in cooperation with Libya, and that it will not be late to provide all support for Libyan efforts in particular.
