Italy Appoints Special Envoy To Libya

The Italian Nova News Agency reported that Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio has assigned Ferrara to the post of Special Envoy to Libya.

It said Ferrara would represent Italian and ensure that it takes part in multi-lateral initiatives to push the political process in Libya in concert with Italy's traditional commitment to peace and stability in the country.

According to Nova, Ferrara will be tasked with building proper communication with the prominent and most active local and international players in Libya, and will engage in promoting strategic thinking both in Italy and with international experts on prospects of stability in Libya and in the context of North Africa .

Ferrara held the posts of Ambassador of Italy to Algeria until November 2020, and served in diplomatic posts in Athens, Brussels and Washington. He was Head of Analysis unit in the Italian Foreign Ministry.
