President of Presidency Council Holds Talks With Austrian Chancellor

Vienna-The President of Presidency Council of the Government of National Accord Fayez Al Serraj on Monday met Austrian Chancellor Alexander Van Der Bellen. AlSerraj arrived in Austria on Sunday for a visit to the country. He was accorded an official welcome at the Presidential Palace in Vienna. The President briefed his host on the political situation in Libya and expressed his gratitude for the support offered by Austria to the Government of the National Accord to help the country overcome its crisis. 'The situation in the country is improving, and the GNA supports efforts by the UN Special Envoy Ghasan Salama aimed at conducting elections in Libya on solid constitutional basis, Al Serraj said. The Austrian President expressed support for the GNA effort to restore stability in Libya, and said Austria was committed to promoting exchange with Libya and activate cooperation agreements signed by the two countries. The two sides discussed illegal migration, and there was an agreement that the issue had to be addressed from all prospects humanitarian, economic and security. Earlier Al Serraj held talks with Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz on exchange between the two countries particularly in areas of health, education, oil, electricity and manufacturing. The meeting was attended by the Libyan Foreign Minister Mohamed Siala and several Austrian officials. Al Serraj demanded that the Austrian Embassy return to operate from the capital Tripoli, and also invited Austrian companies to return to work in Libya. 'We look forward to real partnership between Libya and Austria that can be translated into projects on the ground, for the mutual benefit of both peoples, the GNA President told his Austrian hosts. 'Libya is going through an exceptional phase, and faces huge political, economic and security challenges, it needs assistance from friendly countries to restore stability, Al Serraj said, indicating that Libya is in possession of enough economic potential and strategic location to enable it to achieve progress and to play a key role in keeping peace and security in the region, he said.
