Manama, Council of Representatives Speaker Ahmed bin Ibrahim Rashid Al-Mullah saluted the fourth estate on the eve of the Bahrain Press Day, which falls on the 7th of May. He paid tribute to the national press, hailing its crucial role in reflecting social aspirations and spearheading development process in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
"Bahrain's press has all along its history dealt with national and citizens' issues and supported strenuous efforts to build the nation and maintain its security, stability and unity", he said. He paid tribute to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa who expanded the scope of liberties so as to enable the press to assume its role in supporting national development, progress and prosperity.
He hailed the atmosphere of liberty under the reform project which was launched by HM the King, citing royal directives to allocate an annual day to celebrate the national press, in recognition of vital role in enhancing awareness and expressing opinions.
The Speaker sent cables of congratulations to Bahrain Journalists' Association and the chief editors of local newspapers, hailing their role in serving the community and the nation. He paid tribute to journalists, writers and columnists, hailing their patriotic role in defending the homeland, advocating national issues and debunking all that targets the nation.
